Editorial Policy
Investment content affects people’s money. These are the rules we hold ourselves to.
What this site is — and is not
We publish free calculators and educational articles about index fund investing. Everything here is general information.
We are not financial advisers, we are not regulated by any financial authority, and nothing on this site is a personal recommendation. We do not know your circumstances, tax position or risk tolerance. Before acting on anything you read here, speak to an adviser licensed in your country.
How our calculators work
Projections apply a constant annual rate of return, compounded monthly, and subtract the fund expense ratio each year. Contributions are treated as made at the start of each month.
Real markets do not deliver constant returns. A projection showing a single line is a simplification: actual outcomes vary widely, including outcomes where you lose money. Treat the output as an order-of-magnitude estimate, not a forecast.
Inflation adjustment discounts the nominal balance by the rate you enter. Capital gains tax is applied to gains at the headline rate for the country you select and ignores allowances, exemptions, account wrappers and local rules.
The calculation logic is covered by automated tests so results stay consistent between releases.
Where our data comes from
Fund figures — expense ratios, long-run annualised returns, volatility and assets under management — are taken from the fund providers' own published factsheets and prospectuses. They reflect provider reporting as of 2024-12-31 and are refreshed when providers issue new annual data. They are not live quotes and are never adjusted algorithmically.
Exchange rates come from the European Central Bank reference rates, republished through the Frankfurter API and cached for one hour. The ECB publishes once per working day, so rates are indicative and unsuitable for transactions. If the feed is unavailable we display a bundled baseline and label it as such.
Capital gains tax rates are headline statutory rates collected from national tax authority publications. Tax law changes frequently and varies by residency, holding period and account type.
How we make money
The site is funded entirely by display advertising. We do not receive commissions, referral fees or payment from any fund provider, broker or platform.
No advertiser sees our content before publication, and no advertiser can influence which funds we include or how they are described.
